TORONTO — The Ontario government is taking the next step to build a transit-oriented community (TOC) near the Oakville GO Station by issuing four Minister’s Zoning Orders (MZOs) that will help deliver more than 6,800 new homes, create almost 4,000 jobs during construction and support approximately 400 new long-term jobs in Midtown Oakville. These MZOs will support the establishment of a vibrant, mixed-use community with new public spaces, more housing and enhanced transit access. This next step follows extensive engagement with the Town of Oakville since 2024, as well as public consultations with residents through open houses, Local Advisory Committee meetings and the Environmental Registry of Ontario.

“As a key partner in delivering the Oakville TOC, we have been working closely with the Town of Oakville and value their feedback as we work on making refinements to the TOC design, including opportunities for adjustments to the building heights to better reflect local input,” said Todd McCarthy, Acting Minister of Infrastructure. “We look forward to continuing to work with the town as part of our government’s plan to deliver faster, more reliable and seamless transit with more housing, jobs and community amenities near transit stations across the Greater Golden Horseshoe.”

The Oakville TOC will support the town’s long-term vision for growth and aligns with the municipality’s commitment to deliver 33,000 new homes by 2031. In addition to delivering new housing units, the Oakville TOC will also include parks and publicly accessible spaces, bike paths and a day care, as well as enhanced access and walkability to the GO station, creating a more connected community.

In response to feedback received from the town and the community, Ontario is working with the municipality and impacted partners on further refinements to the Oakville TOC that will result in building heights of 38 storeys, while maintaining the overall number of homes and community benefits.

Since 2024, the province has invested more than $44 million in Oakville for housing-enabling and community infrastructure, including through the Building Faster Fund and the Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program, to help accelerate housing delivery and support complete communities. This includes funding to expand the Oakville Water Treatment Plant and boost water production, enabling the construction of 25,000 new homes.

In the face of a generational housing crisis, Ontario is taking action to get shovels in the ground on key projects and support economic development that will protect jobs and help communities grow. As part of the historic Canada-Ontario Partnership to Build, the province is working with the federal government to remove the HST on new home builds, reduce development charges and provide funding to support major transit projects.
