Sentencing concluded on September 13, 2024. Mario Cascio was fined $300,000 plus a victim fine surcharge of $75,000, and given 15 days to pay.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li><\/ul><ul>\t<li><span><span><span><span>On April 18, 2024, Wesley Dass was convicted of 3 violations under the EPA<em>. <\/em>Sentencing concluded on August 28, 2025. Wesley Dass was fined $225,000 plus a victim fine surcharge of $56,250, and given 12 months to pay. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li><\/ul><ul>\t<li><span><span><span><span>On April 18, 2024, 11705580 Canada Inc. was convicted of one violation under the EPA. Sentencing concluded on August 28, 2025. The company was fined $500,000 plus a victim fine surcharge of $125,000, and given 12 months to pay.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><strong><span>Background &ndash;<\/span><\/strong><\/p><ul>\t<li><span><span><span>Wesley Dass and Mario Cascio were the directors of 11705580 Canada Inc.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li><\/ul><ul>\t<li><span><span><span>In February 2020, the owners of a property located in Essa Township were approached by Mario Cascio and Wesley Dass who were seeking to rent land for the purpose of receiving tree and natural wood product. The property owners were advised that the wood product would be converted into recycled consumer landscape material. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li><\/ul><ul>\t<li><span><span><span>The property owners subsequently entered into an agreement with 11705580 Canada Inc. allowing the company to rent two acres of land at their property (the site). <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li><\/ul><ul>\t<li><span><span><span>The site previously operated as an auto salvage yard, however the property had remained vacant in recent years. The site is not an authorized waste disposal or landfill site, nor is it permitted to operate as a waste transfer or receiver site.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li><\/ul><ul>\t<li><span><span><span>Between April and August 2020, the defendants directed multiple trucking contractors to deposit hundreds of truckloads of construction and demolition waste at the site. The waste was comprised of plywood, drywall, brick, insulation, and glass, amongst other materials. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li><\/ul><ul>\t<li><span><span><span>In September 2020, a Provincial Officer questioned Wesley Dass about the waste deliveries to the site. Mr. Dass denied having any involvement in <span>the arrangement, transportation and\/or deposit of waste at the site. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li><\/ul><ul>\t<li><span><span><span>In November 2020, a Provincial Officer&rsquo;s Order was issued to the defendants requiring them to cease depositing waste at the site and commence clean-up by removing and transporting all waste from the site to an approved waste disposal site.
